Franklin Templeton has officially filed an S-1 form with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the launch of an Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) on XRP. This move follows the firm’s previous ETF proposal on Solana (SOL), signaling growing institutional interest in alternative crypto assets.
Franklin Templeton’s XRP ETF Filing and Strategic Decisions
The proposed XRP ETF will be listed on the Cboe BZX Exchange, with Coinbase serving as the custodian. This aligns with Franklin Templeton’s previous approach, as the asset manager also selected Coinbase for its Solana ETF filing. The firm’s expanding ETF lineup highlights its broader strategy to offer diversified crypto investment products.
Franklin Templeton is no stranger to digital asset ETFs. It already manages the Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC) and the Franklin Ethereum ETF (EZET). Additionally, the company had previously launched EZPZ, an index ETF providing simultaneous exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
Regulatory Landscape and Trump’s Strategic Crypto Reserve
The timing of Franklin Templeton’s XRP ETF filing coincides with a significant shift in the U.S. regulatory landscape. Under the current administration, the SEC has shown a more open stance toward cryptocurrency-based financial products. As a result, multiple firms—including WisdomTree, Bitwise, 21Shares, Canary Capital, and NYSE Arca—have submitted XRP ETF applications, expecting a more favorable reception from regulators.
Further strengthening XRP’s position, former President Donald Trump recently announced plans to establish a U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve. In a statement made on March 2 via Truth Social, Trump suggested that this reserve should include Ripple (XRP), Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA), alongside Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). This move could position these digital assets as critical components of the nation’s financial future, further bolstering investor confidence.
XRP Price Reaction and Market Sentiment
Following the announcement of Franklin Templeton’s ETF application, XRP saw a 3.5% price increase within 24 hours, signaling positive market sentiment. However, over the past seven days, XRP has experienced an 11% decline, reflecting broader market volatility.
At the time of writing, XRP is trading at $2.15, still below its all-time high (ATH) of $3.25 recorded in mid-January. Despite this, XRP remains above the $2 psychological level, a milestone that seemed unattainable during its prolonged legal battle with the SEC.
What’s Next for XRP and Institutional Crypto Adoption?
Franklin Templeton’s continued expansion into the crypto ETF space suggests increasing institutional confidence in the long-term viability of digital assets. If the SEC approves its application, this could pave the way for additional XRP-based financial products and broader adoption among traditional investors.
With growing regulatory clarity, institutional interest, and political support, XRP could be on the cusp of a new era, potentially reshaping its role in the evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
