Trump’s World Liberty Expands USD1 Supply After Pro-Stablecoin Momentum

The stablecoin market received a major jolt this week when World Liberty Financial (WLFI), the decentralized finance project linked to the Trump family, minted an additional $205 million worth of its native stablecoin USD1. The stablecoin market received a major jolt this week when World Liberty Financial (WLFI), the decentralized finance project linked to the Trump family, minted an additional $205 million worth of its native stablecoin USD1. The move pushed the total circulating supply of USD1 to $2.4 billion, marking its largest increase since April and solidifying its status as one of the fastest-growing stablecoins in the market.

This event coincided with a pro-stablecoin speech delivered by Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, who emphasized the role of stablecoins in advancing the international position of the U.S. dollar. The timing has fueled debate over whether WLFI’s expansion reflects growing confidence in U.S.-backed stablecoin projects or a calculated response to regulatory and political tailwinds.

USD1 Minting: A Strategic Boost

The announcement, made via WLFI’s official channels, revealed that $205 million worth of USD1 tokens had been minted and allocated to the project’s treasury. According to data from Nansen, this minting spree lifted WLFI’s treasury holdings to a record $548 million.

USD1 now represents the largest share of the project’s portfolio at $212 million, or approximately 39% of its total reserves. Other notable holdings include $85 million in Aave’s Ethereum-based USDT product (AETHUSDT) and nearly 19,650 ETH, valued at around $85 million.

This expansion underscores WLFI’s ambitions to cement USD1 as a competitor in the global stablecoin market, where giants like Tether (USDT) and Circle’s USDC still dominate with market shares of 60% and 24% respectively.

A Favorable Regulatory Climate

The timing of WLFI’s mint appears deliberate. Just hours before the announcement, Governor Waller delivered remarks at a blockchain conference in Wyoming, highlighting the “transformative potential” of stablecoins for both domestic and cross-border payments. He further noted that the recently enacted GENIUS Act, which established clearer regulatory frameworks for stablecoin issuers, could serve as a catalyst for the sector’s next phase of growth.

This sentiment was echoed by Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins, who described the legislation as a “seminal step” for the U.S. government in supporting innovation while ensuring accountability.

For WLFI, these developments provide fertile ground. Unlike many decentralized projects that often face uncertainty over their compliance outlook, USD1’s growing alignment with U.S. regulatory sentiment could help position it as a stablecoin with both political and institutional credibility.

Treasury Growth and Strategic Positioning

The new minting has propelled WLFI’s treasury to its highest levels since the project’s inception. This increased war chest not only strengthens USD1’s backing but also bolsters investor confidence in the project’s long-term sustainability.

Treasury diversification remains an important part of the strategy. By holding large reserves of ETH and integrating DeFi-based assets like AETHUSDT, WLFI is balancing exposure across multiple digital assets while ensuring liquidity for its stablecoin operations.

At the same time, the decision to allocate nearly 40% of the treasury to USD1 highlights the project’s commitment to growing its stablecoin as the central pillar of its financial ecosystem. This approach mirrors strategies taken by major players like Tether, where strong reserves underpin market confidence and foster adoption.

USD1’s Position in the Market

Since its launch in April, USD1 has quickly risen to become the sixth-largest stablecoin globally by market capitalization, an extraordinary feat in a short period. Its growth trajectory demonstrates both the appetite for alternatives to the duopoly of Tether and USDC and the marketing power associated with the Trump family brand.

However, questions remain about the concentration of its adoption. While USD1 has achieved impressive headline figures, its broader utility in DeFi protocols, payment solutions, and cross-border settlements will be the ultimate test of its staying power. For now, WLFI appears to be leaning heavily on its political and financial clout to secure attention and confidence.

Political Overtones and Strategic Significance

It is impossible to separate WLFI’s ambitions from its political associations. With the Trump family openly tied to the project, USD1 carries unique symbolic weight in the conversation about the role of U.S.-backed stablecoins. For supporters, this connection may enhance legitimacy, particularly among conservative policymakers and retail investors drawn to the family’s brand.

On the other hand, critics argue that political affiliations could expose the project to heightened regulatory scrutiny or create volatility depending on shifts in the political landscape. Stablecoins, by their nature, demand a high degree of trust. Whether USD1 can maintain that trust in a politically polarized environment remains to be seen.

Broader Market Implications

The expansion of USD1 also raises broader questions about the future of the stablecoin sector. With Tether continuing to dominate global markets and Circle positioning USDC as the compliant option for U.S. institutions, WLFI’s USD1 could carve out a unique niche as a politically charged alternative.

If WLFI succeeds in building a broad ecosystem around USD1 — integrating it into lending, payments, and on-chain financial infrastructure — it could emerge as a major force in reshaping the competitive landscape of stablecoins. Its rapid growth already hints at the possibility of future rivalry with established leaders.

What’s Next for WLFI

Reports have already surfaced that WLFI is exploring the creation of a publicly traded company to hold its tokens, with a fundraising goal of $1.5 billion. If realized, this would be a significant step toward bridging the gap between traditional finance and decentralized ecosystems, potentially attracting institutional investors who remain cautious about direct exposure to crypto.

In the near term, USD1’s supply growth will likely be tested by market demand. If adoption expands into major DeFi platforms and payment channels, the stablecoin could gain sustainable traction. Conversely, if minting outpaces real-world usage, questions about the project’s long-term viability could intensify.

A Defining Moment for USD1

The minting of $205 million worth of USD1 marks a watershed moment for WLFI and highlights the project’s determination to play a central role in the stablecoin debate. Backed by political influence, a growing treasury, and favorable regulatory winds, USD1 is positioned as a challenger to the dominance of USDT and USDC.

Yet its future will depend on more than headlines. Real adoption, transparent reserves, and consistent engagement with regulators will determine whether USD1 becomes a lasting force in the global stablecoin market or a temporary phenomenon shaped by political momentum.

For now, the numbers speak volumes: WLFI’s treasury has never been stronger, USD1 supply is at record highs, and the project has placed itself squarely in the spotlight of the global crypto conversation.
